Abstract
Bien avant de devenir un célèbre politicien, Camille Laurin fut un médecin engagé, en particulier dans la défense et la modernisation de la psychiatrie québécoise francophone. Il contribua notamment à la mise en place en 1961 de la commission Bédard, dont le rapport permit de transformer l’organisation des soins de santé mentale au Québec. Mais bien avant ce coup d’éclat, le jeune psychiatre avait multiplié les stratégies pour engager la réforme du système psychiatrique de la province, allant même jusqu’à se faire historien de la médecine. Entre 1956 et 1961, il rédigea en effet une série d’articles historiques portant sur la relation médecin-malade et visant à importer les conceptions de la psychiatrie française au Québec. C’est sur cette initiative éditoriale unique et cet usage singulier de l’histoire médicale comme levier de transformations sociales que revient cet article.
