L’apprentissage de l’orthographe française constitue une pierre d’achoppement importante chez les élèves (Manesse et Cogis, 2007). Les difficultés qu’ils rencontrent sont notamment dues à la polyvalence graphique du français et à sa morphologie silencieuse, ce qui se traduit par la présence de nombreuses lettres muettes (Fayol et Jaffré, 2008). Dans ce contexte, certains dispositifs, tels que les ateliers de négociation graphique (Haas et Maurel, 2009) et les dictées métacognitives (Nadeau et Fisher, 2014a), et certaines approches, telles qu’une approche intégrée d’enseignement de l’orthographe (Allal et al., 2001), semblent avoir un effet positif sur le développement de la compétence orthographique des élèves. Dans notre recherche, nous proposons de concevoir et de mettre à l’essai, auprès d’élèves d’un lycée professionnel en France, un dispositif d’intervention s’inspirant de ces interventions et adapté au profil des élèves de notre échantillon. Les effets de la mise en oeuvre du dispositif sur la compétence orthographique des élèves sont mesurés au moyen d’une dictée et d’une production écrite. Nous constatons ainsi que le dispositif expérimenté tend à favoriser le développement de la compétence orthographique des élèves, notamment pour ce qui est des accords adjectivaux et verbaux et de l’orthographe des suffixes adverbiaux en –ment. Des pistes d’adaptation du dispositif mis à l’essai sont suggérées.
