Internet, avant 2001, reproduit le schéma commercial traditionnel : un producteur de biens ou d’informations d’un côté, un consommateur de l’autre. Le monde de l’art tente de se faire une place dans ce nouveau marché en proposant ses œuvres/objets. Les net-artistes, quant à eux, y voient davantage un espace de création à investir. Produisant de l’image et de l’information, ils développent des environnements libérés des contraintes économiques, se référant aux principes alternatifs d’expérimentation, de partage, d’échange, de liberté, etc. E-commerce et net-art seraient-ils incompatibles ?
