Le portrait de Tibère au livre 57 de l’Histoire romaine de Cassius Dion est parcouru par une double tension : entre fixité du personnage et dynamisme de son modèle d’abord, entre singularité et généralité ensuite. L’article étudie comment Dion fixe les contours de la φύσις de Tibère en la soustrayant au mouvement de l’histoire, et en quoi le profil ainsi dégagé s’inscrit dans la lignée des dirigeants de Rome tout en s’en démarquant par l’accentuation et la systématisation de certains traits.
