Abstract
Depuis les premières initiatives de sauvegarde du web à la fin des années 1990 et la création d’un dispositif légal français en 2006, l’archivage du web est une aventure passionnante pour les bibliothécaires. Tout en s’inscrivant dans la tradition du dépôt légal, il confie à des robots la tâche de prendre le relai des êtres humains pour archiver au mieux le web. Les bibliothécaires les nourrissent par des collectes thématiques qui ont pour but de repérer plus précisément les sites qui pourraient échapper à la collecte large. La mise en œuvre du dépôt légal du web a conduit à une évolution du métier de bibliothécaire : définir de nouveaux objets, faire connaître cette mission, baliser les archives du web. Outre les nécessaires adaptations aux évolutions du web, il reste encore de nombreux chantiers à venir, notamment proposer une meilleure indexation des collectes et travailler plus étroitement avec les chercheur·e·s. Le web fait aujourd’hui figure de « mémoire partagée » de l’humanité. Constituer une mémoire de cette mémoire et la partager avec le plus grand nombre est l’un des enjeux les plus importants de notre temps.
