Abstract
Durante as últimas três décadas do século dezanove português, a Geração de 70 construiu um ideal político-social baseado nos valores de uma Democracia a que chamou republicana. Os homens que constituíram o Cenáculo – Antero de Quental e Oliveira Martins, Eça de Queirós e Jaime Batalha Reis – lançaram mão de vários recursos para divulgar e popularizar a sua quimera. Um por um foram-se afastando do sonho de juventude, à medida que iam vencendo ou perdendo na vida.
