Abstract
The Blanding's Turtle (Emydoidea blandingii), a species at risk, is expected to become extirpated in urban environments without anthropogenic mitigation. Rouge National Urban Park, along with the Toronto Zoo, is working to create wetland habitat, and is supplementing the existing population with head-starts; turtles raised for two years at the Zoo then released into the wild. The selection and availability of appropriate overwintering sites can minimize turtle mortality. This research examined environmental conditions influencing site selection by head-starts in an artificial wetland complex, 2014-2017.
