Abstract
Les mythes wayùus fourmillent de petites bêtes, souvent décrites comme des passeurs entre le domaine céleste des êtres qui, dans un passé originaire, contribuèrent à donner au monde ses cycles saisonniers stables et ses événements climatiques plus imprévisibles, celui, sous-terrain, des créatures invisibles et de la mort, et celui, terrestre, des hommes. Outre ces récits faisant jouer aux insectes des rôles cosmogoniques de grande ampleur, certaines bestioles sont, au quotidien, le support d’inférences notables. Qu’on les traite comme des envahisseurs dotés du pouvoir pülasü des esprits, qu’on les écoute annoncer la venue de Jepirachi, le vent du nord-est, ou qu’on entende les faire compenser des dommages, ces bêbêtes évoquent aux Wayùus bien plus qu’un ersatz d’animal. Elles sont révélatrices de dynamiques immanentes et de ce que le monde, aux yeux des Wayùus, se meut au gré des humeurs et tempéraments d’êtres susceptibles de le rendre hospitalier ou non.
