Effects of the Health Management Importance Awareness on Occupational Performance and Basic Fitness for the People with Intellectual Disabilities Participated in the Muscle Strengthening Exercise

Abstract
본 연구는 시설 거주 지적장애인들의 건강관리의 중요도 인식이 작업수행과 기초체력에 미치는 효과를 규명하여, 건강관리의 중요도 인식의 중요성을 강조하고 이에 따른 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 지적장애인 거주시설 거주 지적장애인 16명을 대상으로 2016년 07월 01일부터 09월 30일까지 총 12주 동안 주 2회 탄성밴드를 활용한 부위별 근력운동을 실시하였다. 건강관리의 중요도 인식에 대한 평가로 프로그램 참여 전 캐나다작업수행측정(COPM) 도구를 활용하여 건강관리의 중요도에 따라 중요도(매우높음) 집단과 중요도(보통) 집단으로 구분하였으며, 프로그램 참여 전, 후 작업수행과 기초체력의 변화를 분석 하였다. 건강관리 중요도에 따른 중요도(매우높음), 중요도(보통) 집단의 수행도, 만족도, 근력, 유연성의 집단내 분석결과 두 집단 모두 참여 전, 후 증가하였으며, 집단간 분석결과 수행도, 만족도의 사후분석에서 집단간 차이가 나타났다. 집단간 분석결과 근력, 유연성에서 집단간 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 따라서, 시설 거주 지적장애인들에 있어서 중요도 인식이 중요하며, 지속적인 운동프로그램의 참여를 통해 건강관리에 대한 중요성의 인식을 강화하고, 적극적인 건강관리활동의 참여로 건강한 생활을 유지하고 삶의 질을 향상시키는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.This study performed to provide the basic information about the effects of the health management importance awareness on the occupational performance and basic fitness for the people with intellectual disabilities. 16 people with intellectual disabilities participated in muscle strengthening exercise. To assess health management importance awareness, the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure was used to identify the importance of the health management. According to the results of the importance, they were divided into two groups: Extreme and Neutral Importance Group in order to analyze the changes of the occupational performance and basic fitness. In-group analysis of the performance, satisfaction level, strength, and flexibility found that all measures improved in both groups following completion of the program. Between-group analysis following completion of the program indicated group differences in the performance and satisfaction level, but no group differences were found in the muscle strength and flexibility. Thus, this study showed the positive effects from the results of the program participation targeting the people with intellectual disabilities, and highlighted the importance of the awareness for them regarding the need for the health management (as evidenced by the improvement in occupational performance). It is expected that effective health management through participation in programs such as this will help maintain a healthy lifestyle and contribute to improve the quality of life.
