Abstract
Depuis plusieurs années, un débat est engagé sur la structure et le contenu du programme d’enseignement secondaire classique conduisant au baccalauréat ès arts qui donne accès à l’ensemble des facultés universitaires. Certains, des scientifiques surtout (voir texte 4), réclament que l’étude des sciences remplace celle du grec ancien. Au moment où les universités, dont les facultés des arts régissant le cours classique, entreprennent de reconnaître un baccalauréat latin-sciences, Richard Joly (1921-1996), spécialiste en orientation professionnelle, professeur aux universités Laval et de Sherbrooke, auteur et éditeur, se prononce résolument, en 1952, pour la diversification du programme secondaire conduisant au baccalauréat. Pour lui, une combinaison latin-sciences peut, tout aussi bien que le traditionnel couple latin-grec, fournir une formation secondaire d’une grande richesse culturelle.
