Abstract

Tutors are often found outside of the regular classroom and often in community settings. By building a unique relationship with their students, tutors are able to play an important role in the lives of their students. Tutors at the Centre for OutReach Education (CORE) endeavor to do just that. Located at the University of Victoria, CORE is a multidisciplinary centre dedicated to enhancing the education of children and youth. CORE's aim is to fill unmet needs in the community by supporting students who might not necessarily be able to afford such educational support in the community context. CORE Tutors are hired primarily from the body of students in the University of Victoria's Education (teacher training) programs. CORE's provides these teachers in training with a unique opportunity to hone their skills while supporting children in need.
