Abstract
La Guadeloupe en tan Sorin est plus qu'un livre d'histoire de la Guadeloupe, c'est un vrai roman d'aventure qui concerne la periode 1940-1943. Le gouverneur Constant Sorin evoque la periode de Vichy pendant laquelle son role fut tres controverse. Oblige d'obeir a l'amiral Robert qui tenait les Antilles avec 2500 marins, mais aussi La Jeanne et une escadre comprenant les croiseurs Esterel, Quercy, Barfleur ; une escadrille de sous-marins de 1500 tonnes avec le Surcouf, un modele unique, orgueil de la marine francaise. Avec le porte-avions Bearn, charge d'avions achetes aux USA et surtout le croiseur Emile Bertin porteur d'un veritable tresor de 300 tonnes d'or, destine au Canada, mais qui fut conserve precieusement. Et puis, ce decor etant plante, vous apprendrez comment les Guadeloupeens se nourrissaient, puis retablirent le commerce, resisterent contre les convoitises des amis anglais, americains, canadiens, etc. Puis ce fut la delivrance, des marins francais « libres », fraternisant avec ceux qui, pendant trois ans, avaient maintenu le drapeaux francais. Que de moments passionnants de cette tranche de vie, revivons-nous grâce a Eliane Sempaire. Malgre les restrictions et le carburant antillais, ce fut l'occasion de se remettre aux cultures vivrieres, a l'elevage, a la peche. Un livre a lire absolument.
