Abstract
Resin akrilik merupakan bahan basis gigi tiruan paling sering digunakan, tetapi resin akrilik mempunyai kekurangan yaitu mempunyai sifat mikroporus. Pengguna gigi tiruan yang tidak memperhatikan kebersihan mulut termasuk gigi tiruannya sesuai instruksi yang diberikan dokter gigi dapat mengakibatkan terjadinya penumpukan sisa makanan yang merupakan predisposisi terbentuknya plak. Ekstrak daun sereh (Cymbopogon nardus L.) memiliki kandungan tanin, saponin, flavonoid dan minyak atsiri yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri dan antifungal yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan mikroorganisme. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui konsentrasi yang efektif ekstrak daun sereh (Cymbopogon nardus L.) sebagai pembersih plat akrilik dalam menghambat pertumbuhan mikroorganisme rongga mulut. Metode: Sampel saliva yang sesuai dengan persyaratan dikumpulkan sebanyak 15 ml dan dibagi menjadi dua bagian. Bagian saliva pertama adalah saliva steril dan bagian lainnya akan digunakan untuk kontaminasi bakteri pada plat akrilik. Sampel dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok untuk masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari kontrol, dan kelompok perlakuan, konsentrasi 12,5%, 25%, 50% dan 100%. Kemudian diinkubasi selama 24 jam. Perhitungan koloni mikroorganisme dilakukan dengan menggunakan alat hitung koloni Quebec Colony Counter. Hasil: Terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara 5 kelompok perlakuan, dengan nilai p = ,000 (p<0,05). Kecuali jumlah koloni mikroorganisme pada kelompok perendaman ekstrak daun sereh konsentrasi 12,5% terhadap konsentrasi 25% dengan nilai p = ,001 (p<0,05). Kesimpulan: Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa perendaman plat akrilik dalam ekstrak daun sereh (Cymbopogon nardus L.) konsentrasi 25% efektif dalam menurunkan jumlah koloni mikroorganisme rongga mulut
