Abstract
Cette étude, basée sur l'analyse des formes et des sédiments marins, présente une reconstitution des processus géomorphologiques et sédimentaires ayant modelé le fond marin du secteur Trois-Pistoles-Forestville depuis la déglaciation. Des données recueillies par un sonar multifaisceaux ont permis de produire un modèle numérique de terrain à haute résolution du relief sous-marin. Des profils géophysiques et des carottes sédimentaires ont fourni des données sur la nature, l'épaisseur et la distribution des sédiments. Pendant l'Holocène, de nombreux mouvements de masse sont venus remobiliser les sédiments glaciomarins, paraglaciaires et postglaciaires. Les courants de turbidité, les glissements de translation et les coulées de débris ont produit différents dépôts et formes sur le fond marin, dont des amphithéâtres de décrochements, des canyons et des cônes sous-marins. Les systèmes de canyons et de cônes du plateau nord sont encore actifs. Les formes et les sédiments de surface du secteur d'étude sont tous d'origine postglaciaire.
