À travers une collection de quinze articles, cet ouvrage se propose d'explorer les rapports culturels qui ont relié, sous différentes formes et avec des traits distinctifs, les continents africain et asiatique sur la longue durée et jusqu'à nos jours.Comme l'explique très clairement l'excellente introduction de Dominique Malaquais et Nicole Khouri, ces relations -souvent présentées comme une nouveauté -sont aujourd'hui majoritairement discutées dans les médias, non seulement à travers un focus quasi exclusif sur la Chine, mais aussi comme étant potentiellement dangereuses pour les intérêts occidentaux.Aussi, lorsque les deux éditrices se penchent sur le domaine académique, elles font le constat de lectures bien plus nuancées, mais elles soulignent combien ces études sont dominées, elles aussi, par le champ économique.
