Abstract
La Caisse d'economie solidaire Desjardins, fondee en 1971, est une institution financiere meconnue qui a largement contribue a faconner l'actuel paysage social, communautaire et syndical du Quebec. Pierre-Olivier Maheux montre ce qui fait l'originalite du projet cooperatif de l'institution depuis pres d'un demi-siecle. Il explique comment les dirigeants et les employes de cette « banque » hors du commun ont vecu, et vivent aujourd'hui encore, l'humanisme, la democratie et la solidarite au quotidien. On y decouvre l'origine de la Caisse et les grands evenements qui ont jalonne son parcours. Le tout est ponctue de quarante temoignages et extraits de textes marquants. Indispensable pour qui veut mieux comprendre le Quebec d'aujourd'hui, cet ouvrage interessera aussi ceux et celles qui revent d'une societe plus juste. Pierre-Olivier Maheux detient une maitrise en histoire et est historien a la Societe historique Alphonse-Desjardins, un organisme du Mouvement Desjardins.
