Abstract
Cet article retrace l’histoire des « mathématiques védiques » promues par le gouvernement nationaliste hindou de Narendra Modi. Il part de la publication posthume d’une figure religieuse du mouvement indépendantiste indien, puis présente sa diffusion dans les milieux de la médiation transcendantale anglo-saxonne des années soixante-dix, pour arriver au phénomène commercial et politiquement controversé qu’il constitue en Inde depuis une trentaine d’années. Comprises, à tort, comme des « mathématiques traditionnelles », les « mathématiques védiques » semblent témoigner de l’aspiration sans cesse renouvelée de créer une modernité alternative, religieuse et non-occidentale.
