Abstract
The rationale for obtaining the kinetic parameters associated with the uptake of oxygen by oil in reference to in situ combustion projects is provided. Various means of obtaining these parameters are discussed. Detail is given with respect to the design of the matched reactor ramped temperature system in place at the University of Calgary. The advantages of using such a system to obtain the required kinetic parameters and the procedure associated with obtaining these parameters are explained. Many of the analyses routinely conducted on ramped temperature oxidation and cracking experimental data are reviewed. A hypothesis of the nature of the fuel source responsible for the transmission of the thermal front associated with bond-scission reactions is provided.
