Abstract
Au-delà du discours officiel et souvent convenu sur le multiculturalisme canadien, cet ouvrage analyse ses déclinaisons religieuses (catholique et protestante) puis linguistiques dans le champ de l'éducation, lieu privilégié de la transmission culturelle et de la construction, à la fois progressive et encore incertaine, d'une citoyenneté canadienne. Tout au long de son histoire, l'école a été l'un des enjeux les plus importants de la gestion des rapports interethniques et interreligieux. Elle est expression d'identité, de distinction et de repli sur soi tout autant qu'instrument d'ouverture et d'acculturation. À défaut de pouvoir établir les fondements de l'unité canadienne, le lecteur s'enrichira de multiples regards croisés sur l'ouverture tolérante à la diversité qu'offre la mosaïque canadienne d'une société civile toujours soucieuse de bâtir une citoyenneté interculturelle et laïque au service de l'intérêt national.
