Abstract
En 1884, Paul Lacroix, le « Walter-Scott français », donne ses œuvres imprimées à la « Bibliothèque publique de Montpellier », en « souvenir de ses ancêtres » montpelliérains et en témoignage de son amitié pour les bibliothécaires de la Ville de Montpellier. Contrairement aux intentions initiales, la bibliothèque de Montpellier ne reçoit pas les autographes de personnalités contemporaines. Mais pour respecter « l’esprit » du legs, son exécuteur testamentaire, Jean-Baptiste Guilhermoz, cède gracieusement les documents préparatoires et les manuscrits de ses œuvres. Le fonds de Montpellier est important par le nombre de documents (1678) et par leur diversité. Cette collection est complémentaire de celle de la Bibliothèque de l’Arsenal.
