Abstract
Au cours des dernières décennies, l’espérance de vie des personnes présentant une déficience intellectuelle a grandement augmenté. La croissance constante de cette population soulève l’importance de bien connaître leur réalité pour répondre à leurs besoins de participation sociale. Cette recension des écrits vise à décrire les points de vue des personnes aînées présentant une déficience intellectuelle (PADI) sur le sujet. L’analyse des 19 articles retenus soutient que l’avancée en âge est une période remplie de promesses pour certaines, et une expérience marquée par la rupture, le conflit et le déracinement pour d’autres. Les PADI souhaitent se sentir utiles, participer activement aux prises de décision les concernant et être soutenues dans le développement de relations significatives avec des membres de leur communauté.
