Abstract
Pierre Perrault est un poète et un cinéaste québécois qui travaille entre les années 1950 et 1990. Il est l’une des figures les plus connues du cinéma documentariste du Québec, portée par l’Office national du film (ONF). Cet article se propose d’étudier comment la considération des lieux géographiques, leur représentation et la constitution d’une cartographie symbolique sont au cœur de son œuvre. Après avoir montré quels sont les enjeux chez Perrault de cette réflexion sur la représentation du territoire et quel est son arrière-plan culturel, on s’attache à étudier plus particulièrement la figure des «Cornouailles» récurrente dans son œuvre tant poétique que cinématographique. L’écriture de la «cartographie» apparaît finalement comme un enjeu typique des arts américains.
