La contestation citoyenne de l’exploitation du gaz de schiste au Québec et la mobilisation de certains acteurs agricoles dans des tribunes publiques et des instances de gouvernance a été considérable entre 2010 et 2012. L’objet de cet article est de souligner la capacité de certains acteurs à déplacer les échanges au-delà de leurs intérêts sectoriels propres, que résume la figure de « l’agriculteur-propriétaire », pour relier des milieux porteurs de revendications différentes, ce que l’on peut évoquer avec la figure de « l’agriculteur-citoyen ». Ce travail collectif donne naissance à un processus de formation d’un intérêt général au niveau de leur communauté territoriale qui s’impose, souvent sous forme conflictuelle, comme une variable à prendre en compte dans les processus de gouvernance.
