Abstract
Figure mythique de l’imaginaire du Nord, le bûcheron joue un rôle central dans l’histoire, la littérature et la culture québécoises. Dans cet article, l’auteur examine la figure du bûcheron comme symbole de la fraternité forestière au Québec aux 19e et 20e siècles, où la vie des chantiers était un milieu fertile pour les interactions homosociales entre les hommes des bois. La littérature forestière témoigne d’une riche tradition de fraternité ouvrière, d’amitié intime et d’affection masculine parmi les trappeurs et chasseurs, bûcherons et draveurs du Québec. En analysant des sources historiques, des contes populaires, et des textes littéraires, l’auteur trace une histoire de la vie homosociale des hommes des bois québécois, et élargit la cartographie géographique de l’homoérotisme nordique.
