La medecine intensive est une discipline jeune qui a connu un developpement rapide ces dernieres decennies. Parallelement a l’augmentation du nombre des unites de soins intensifs, dont plus de 90 sont actuellement reconnues en Suisse, les moyens de prendre en charge les patients dans ces unites ont fortement progresse. Chaque annee, pres de 90 000 patients peuvent ainsi en beneficier, et voir leurs chances de survie nettement ameliorees.
