Abstract
Dans cet ouvrage, Daniel Poitras analyse les relations complexes entre l’historiographie et l’expérience du temps au xxe siècle en se penchant particulièrement sur la vie et l’œuvre de trois penseurs emblématiques de la France et du Québec : Michel de Certeau, François Furet et Fernand Dumont. Dès lors, il interroge l’ancrage de l’historien dans sa société et l’évolution de son rapport au passé et au futur. Le lecteur suit ainsi la trajectoire de ces auteurs arrivés à la vie intellectuelle pendant les années 1950 – alors que l’Histoire était encore synonyme de progrès – et qui ont vécu les bouleversements du siècle. De l’entre-deux-guerres à la guerre d’Algérie, de la Révolution tranquille à la crise d’Octobre, en passant par Mai 68 et la chute du communisme, ils cherchent à trouver le sens de cette « crise du temps » et, ce faisant, nous offrent des clés uniques pour comprendre notre propre relation à l’histoire au xxie siècle.Ce livre s’adresse tout autant aux spécialistes qu’aux amateurs que pourrait intéresser l’itinéraire de trois des plus importants penseurs de l’historiographie dans le monde francophone.
