Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Vortex-induced vibrations (VIVs) of a circular cylinder are controlled by a single spanwise tripwire. Through a special mechanism, the free vibration motion of the cylinder considered in this experimental investigation is restricted to the transverse direction. The tests are conducted in a recirculating water tunnel at the University of Toronto. The Reynolds number is 10,000 based on the cylinder diameter, and the mass and damping ratios of the system are 2.58 and 0.0248, respectively. The cylinder displacement and the near-wake flow structure are measured simultaneously. To determine the cylinder displacement, a high-resolution laser distance sensor is used, and to capture the instantaneous velocity field, the technique of high-image-density Particle Image Velocimetry is utilized. During the investigation, various tripwire locations are considered from θ = 0° to 175° with 1° and 5° increments with respect to the most upstream point of the cylinder. As a breakthrough, the present study identified a range of tripwire locations (specifically from 100° to 109°) at which the tripwire suppresses the free transverse oscillations of the cylinder significantly. The present study focuses on this particular range of tripwire locations, and addresses the flow characteristics induced through the tripwire control.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
