La réalité du terrorisme se moque des idéologies et des idées reçues. Qui plus est, comme le font remarquer les auteurs de ce livre, il n’existera probablement jamais une définition du phénomène qui soit à la fois claire, précise et consensuelle. Cet ouvrage est divisé en deux parties. La première prend la mesure du phénomène dans toutes ses dimensions : le terrorisme, ses agents, son évolution, sa nature et ses effets. La seconde fait le point sur les réactions des gouvernements, des corps de police, des forces armées, des organismes de renseignement et des simples citoyens. Ce livre va donc au-delà des dénonciations habituelles pour documenter à la fois les différentes facettes du terrorisme et les mesures prises pour le combattre.
