Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse aux événements démographiques de l’île Saint-Pierre, rattachée à l’archipel français de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. La période d’étude se déploie en deux segments, soit celui des deux premières occupations (1763–1778, 1783–1791) et celui de la reprise et de l’occupation définitive de la colonie en 1816. Notre cueillette de données englobe les actes des registres paroissiaux que sont les baptêmes, les mariages et les décès. Nous présentons ensuite les résultats d’une analyse quantitative de ces actes. Il en résulte la confirmation de tendances démographiques de l’Ancien Régime, observées par d’autres chercheurs avant nous, comme la fréquence de la mortalité en bas âge et le choix de conjoints en vertu du statut social, mais surtout la prépondérance des décès chez les gens de mer de passage dans la colonie durant la saison de la pêche.
