Abstract
-- ABSTRACT: Eddies and turbulence are fundamental in the energy transfer between the ocean’s different scales, hence the importance of understanding their mechanisms. Submesoscale baroclinic eddies in cyclostrophic balance were studied in the Saguenay fjord (Québec, Canada) using mooring data, boat-based sampling and oblique images taken from shore, obtained in 2013 and 2015. Cyclostrophic balance implies equilibrium between the centrifugal force and the pressure gradient force, with negligible Coriolis e ect. The shear between the strong ebb flow and the bathymetric obstacle of a cape in the fjord creates a boundary layer of negative vorticity which, by detaching itself from the cape, generates vortices that are hundreds of meters in diameter. Shipborne ADCP, echosounder and CTD transects across the front were measured in order to understand the eddy generation. \nThe first observed vortex had a maximum radius of ~115 m, an average tangential velocity of -0.11 m/s, and was trapped in the top layer of the water column above the pycnocline. The horizontal surface currents were determined using Particule Imagery Velocimetry (PIV) applied to successive georectified images. It was found that under certain conditions, sea surface patterns can provide sufficiently clear information to quantitatively capture the eddy current field and its evolution over time. Although many eddies were observed, only one was fully analysed quantitatively, which yielded some hypotheses on the dynamics and the evolution of such eddies in the fjord.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
