Abstract
Michel Tournier est l’une des grandes figures du roman français contemporain. Son œuvre est remarquable à la fois par sa dimension philosophique et par sa dimension mythique. Il développe une philosophie propre sur la signification de l’image. Nous avons l’impression que l’image serait fallacieuse, illusoire. Pourtant, dans l’univers de Tournier, il existe des images sous forme d’art telles que le portrait, la peinture, la photographie etc. Œuvres esthétiques, source de plaisir ou d’extase, elles visent à l’éternité, mais tombent parfois dans la ruine ou le néant. Cette double nature de l’image provient de deux écoles de photographies opposées: la photographie surprenante (le “pris-sur-le-vif ” ), qui perdrait son objectivisme et devient dangereuse; la photographie immobile, qui échapperait à la temporalité à condition qu’elle soit une véritable œuvre d’art. A la fin, l’opposition problématique de Tournier entre l’image et le signe, nous permet à révéler la défaillance de la quête de l’image artificielle et la sagesse dans l’écriture, et à montrer la quête de l’ écrivain d’une valeur du bonheur qui consiste dans l’éternité et la spiritualité, et sa poursuite d’une plénitude spirituelle.
