Abstract
Près de cinq cents tonnes par mois : c’est la quantité de fioul remplacée par de l’énergie solaire sur le site de la mine d’or d’Essakane, au Burkina Faso. Située dans une zone reculée et non raccordée au réseau national d’électricité, cette société minière qui appartient au groupe canadien IAMGOLD a opté pour une solution d’approvisionnement énergétique innovante pour l’industrie minière. Pour répondre à une demande électrique moyenne de 40 MW, la mine s’est associée au producteur d’énergie Total Eren qui a raccordé une centrale solaire photovoltaïque (PV) d’une capacité de 15 MWc à la centrale thermique au fioul de 57 MW utilisée par la société minière précitée. L’ensemble représente aujourd’hui la plus grande centrale hybride solaire-diesel du monde et l’une des plus grandes installations solaires d’Afrique subsaharienne. Essakane Solar a été développée par les équipes de Total Eren 1 et AEMP (Africa Energy Management Platform) 2 . Comment arriver à satisfaire les besoins énergétiques d’une mine d’or ? Dans cet article, quelques éléments de réponse seront donnés par un acteur pionnier du secteur des énergies renouvelables.
