Abstract
À partir du cas de la réserve mohawk d'Akwesasne à l'intersection entre l'Ontario, le Québec et l'État de New York, cet article analyse les liens entre l'affirmation d'une identité indigène transfrontalière et la mise en oeuvre de politiques de sécurité dans les zones frontalières. Au‐delà d'une opposition binaire entre ces deux dynamiques, nous constatons que la souveraineté indigène se trouve redéfinie au cours de processus de négociation et coopération pour la mise en place de nouvelles règles d'identification et de coopération policière. La mise en oeuvre de la sécurité frontalière s'avère paradoxalement être une opportunité politique pour les dirigeants qui souhaitent réaffirmer une souveraineté indigène : la réaffirmation d'une identité indigène par la coopération émerge comme un facteur clé de l'implémentation des politiques de sécurité frontalière entre le Canada et les États‐Unis.
