Abstract
Si l’histoire de L’Île Sonnante (1909-1913) est celle de toutes les petites revues de la Belle Époque, c’est-à-dire celle d’un groupe d’écrivains bien décidés à créer un organe où ils soient chez eux, avec ses tentatives avortées de lancements, une naissance – enfin ! – puis des difficultés à croître et à survivre qui progressivement l’amèneront à fusionner avec un autre titre a priori plus solide, son histoire est surtout celle d’une revue singulière, revendiquant dès son titre son indépendante insularité . Le directeur, Michel Puy, et les membres du comité de rédaction ne manqueront jamais une occasion dans leurs « manifestes » ou leurs chroniques de rappeler leur attachement à la liberté et leur souci d’une modernité qui ne fût pas l’avant-garde, à égale distance des extrêmes du champ littéraire. L’Île Sonnante se voulut – et fut – une revue du « juste milieu ».
