Les disciplines de l’information géographique regroupent à la fois la géomatique et la télédétection. Elles s’appuient sur un ensemble de techniques et de données à références spatiales qui, utilisées de manière complémentaire ou non, sont devenues indispensables pour un grand nombre de domaines liés à la description et la gestion du territoire. \nIl est utile tout d’abord de rappeler quelques définitions. Parmi les nombreuses définitions de la géomatique on retiendra celle adoptée au Québec par l’Office de la langue française et tirée du Grand dictionnaire terminologique (GDT) qui définit la géomatique comme «la discipline ayant pour objet la gestion des données géographiques et qui fait appel aux sciences et aux technologies reliées à leur acquisition, leur stockage, leur traitement et leur diffusion » (https://www.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca). \nSelon la même source, nous pouvons également définir la télédétection comme étant une discipline regroupant « l’ensemble des connaissances et techniques utilisées pour déterminer, au moyen de mesures effectuées à distance, les caractéristiques physiques et biologiques des phénomènes ». \nDepuis leur apparition, la géomatique et la télédétection (spatiale et aéroportée) connaissent un essor considérable dans un contexte d’évolution technologique et méthodologique en informatique par : le développement des Systèmes d’Information Géographique (SIG) dès les années 1960 (Figure 1), la succession des programmes de lancement des satellites d’observation de la terre, et l’augmentation de la capacité et des performances des ordinateurs [Comas et Ruiz, 1993]...
