Abstract
Este trabalho investiga evidências de como o Jornal do Commercio construiu um clima de opinião favorável ao golpe parlamentar que derrubou a ex-presidente Dilma Rousseff. O corpus do trabalho foi a cobertura das manifestações sobre o impeachment da ex-presidente. Na análise confirmamos a hipótese de uma distorção sistemática das notícias visando legitimar a cassação, através de um clima de opinião em que a minoria populacional pertencente às elites é representada como majoritária, com o intuito de intimidar os defensores do mandato da presidente, descritos como minoritários, com a ameaça de isolamento, conforme o conceito da Espiral do Silêncio de Noelle-Neuman.
