Abstract
Abstract This entry documents the existing research examining the effects of exposure to media depictions of race and ethnicity on majority and minority group audiences in the United States. Comparable investigations in Europe and Canada are also addressed. The harmful implications of consuming unfavorable and stereotypical depictions of racial–ethnic groups are addressed. Additionally, the ability of auspicious messages to support identity needs and to encourage positive interracial–ethnic dynamics in society is also detailed.
