Abstract
La question identitaire est au coeur des préoccupations de nombreuses communautés autochtones qui voient divers processus d’assimilation menacer leur riche héritage culturel. Des membres de la nation atikamekw et une équipe de designers allochtones de l’Université de Montréal travaillent ensemble à imaginer de nouveaux moyens de transmission et de valorisation culturelle. Cet article présente des enjeux, défis et possibilités révélés par l’initiative de recherche-action Tapiskwan. En réponse à la transformation du territoire qui limite l’accès aux matières premières nécessaires à la confection des produits de l’artisanat, des matières textiles mettant en valeur le patrimoine graphique atikamekw ont été réalisées. En lien avec les modes de vie autochtones qui sont modulés en fonction des saisons et activités liées à la subsistance pour chaque période de l’année, une approche plus saisonnière des activités de production est proposée, à raison de plusieurs périodes intensives par année.
