La solidarité est souvent définie en travail social comme un moyen ou une finalité des pratiques d’intervention se réclamant de l’ empowerment . Or, la solidarité comme l’ empowerment font l’objet d’usages polysémiques brouillant la compréhension des phénomènes à l’oeuvre. À partir d’une synthèse analytique de la littérature sur l’ empowerment , nous présentons six perspectives basées sur des significations différentes d’après des modalités théoriques et idéologiques spécifiques donnant lieu à une conceptualisation de la solidarité selon une grille d’analyse fondée sur des conditions de pratique. Après quoi nous soulevons certains angles morts théoriques des perspectives recensées, dont le régime d’autonomie dans lequel s’exercent ces pratiques et les rapports de pouvoir avec lesquels ces dernières doivent composer. Nous concluons en considérant les dimensions paradoxales du régime d’autonomie-condition en intervention sociale et les défis que ce contexte dissonant représente pour le travail social.
