Cercare di comprendere ciò che avviene nel breve incontro tra un operatore di strada e dei giovani non è certamente facile. I discorsi sulla pratica dei professionisti, in generale, sono spesso saturi di una rappresentazione stereotipata dell'agire professionale, e contemporaneamente le attività di questi professionisti sono state oggetto di ben pochi studi d'interpretazione. Questo stimola i ricercatori verso dei metodi di raccolta dati più vicini alle loro pratiche reali. E' così che l'osservazione diretta s'impone come uno dei metodi più appropriati. Ma come osservare ciò che, in sostanza, si situa a margine delle zone di visibilità? Come avvicinare ciò che, in effetti, si sottrae allo sguardo? Come cogliere quello che, in pratica, è effimero, imprevedibile, mutevole? Questo contributo presenterà alcune considerazioni metodologiche su di un'esperienza sul campo realizzata insieme a quattro collettivi impegnati nel lavoro di strada in Québec (Canada).
