Abstract
Cet article analyse les événements les plus importants qui ont marqué l’histoire récente du monde de l’éducation au Québec jusqu’à la reconnaissance des principes de laïcité et du pluralisme religieux, qui ont entraîné la démobilisation de la structure confessionnelle et la laïcisation du système scolaire québécois. La profondeur du processus qui a transformé les rapports entre le pouvoir politique et l’Église catholique est mise en évidence par une comparaison des débats sur le rapport de la Commission Parent (1961-1963) avec les débats qui se sont déroulés pendant et après les travaux de la Commission Proulx (1997-1998).
