A central problem of studies in cognitive aging is the apparent discrepancy between amyloid burden and preserved cognitive functions in some individuals. Cortical thickness could explain some of this discrepancy. Previous studies have shown a typical pattern of cortical thinning in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and MCI individuals who later develop AD. Here, we hypothesized that cortical thickness is associated with cognitive functions (CF) even in healthy elderly subjects without memory complaints, regardless of their amyloid burden. We investigated interactions between cortical thickness (CoT) and amyloid burden (PiB).
