Depuis le milieu des années 1990, l’ouverture de nouvelles perspectives historiographiques dans le domaine de la géographie des sciences, et l’essor de l’histoire environnementale, ont créé des opportunités d’hybridation entre ces deux approches. À cet égard, le développement des sciences forestières au Québec entre les années 1880 et 1940, à la croisée des influences européenne et nord-américaine, offre un terrain d’investigation privilégié pour observer les dynamiques de mise en science de la nature à l’échelle transatlantique. En effet, l’examen des diverses contraintes économiques, politiques, sociales, et culturelles entourant les transferts de pratiques scientifiques européennes sur les environnements forestiers nord-américains, permet de mettre en lumière le processus de métissage des théories et des pratiques au niveau local, dans un contexte de forte internationalisation des sciences.
