Abstract
Depuis la publication de son premier roman La rage en 1989, Louis Hamelin est devenu une figure centrale de l’écriture de la nature. Si les préoccupations de l’auteur québécois, biologiste de formation et environnementaliste de passion, se sont souvent manifestées dans un élan écologique défenseur d’une nature brutalisée par la main de l’Homme, c’est avec son roman Le joueur de flûte (2001) qu’il s’éloignera du consensuel roman du terroir et exposera pour la première fois une volonté claire de symbiose entre l’Homme et la nature en décortiquant les modes de coopération, protection et prédation, qui résident au centre de cette relation. Aussi, cette étude se propose-t-elle, à travers une lecture approfondie de Le joueur de flûte, de montrer comment se construit dans la fiction une éthique écocentrique, faisant de l’humain et du non-humain deux forces coévolutives appartenant à la même communauté biotique et dont il est nécessaire de reconnaître les exigences respectives, qu’elles soient protectrices ou prédatrices.
