Abstract
This chapter provides a description of the geographic, demographic, socioeconomic, and cultural context in Canada. It summarizes the main findings from research literature using Canadian samples on work and family issues. The chapter presents the results of focus group interviews with 15 women and 5 men about their experiences of work and family conflict (WFC), balance, and guilt. Women were less likely to participate in flexible work arrangements than men. Population aging and a projected shrinking labor force add greater impetus for employers and policy makers to engage in more sustainable approaches to support work-family integration. In 1991 the Bloc Quebecois was formed as a "federal" political party devoted to the protection of Quebec&s;s interests in the House of Commons of Canada, and to the promotion of Quebec sovereignty. Statistics Canada has conducted time use surveys as part of the General Social Surveys program on a regular basis since 1992.
