Écrit en 1974, The Fourth World: An Indian Reality de George Manuel, militant autochtone de la nation Secwepemc, demeure peu étudié dans l’historiographie canadienne. Cet article aborde la place de l’environnement dans la pensée politique et identitaire de Manuel. Ce dernier met de l’avant la relation particulière qu’entretiennent les peuples autochtones avec leur environnement comme un référent identitaire transnational qui rassemble au sein du « Quatrième Monde » des peuples dispersés aux quatre coins du globe.
