Abstract
Cet article propose une réflexion sur l’apport des problématiques et des méthodes de l’histoire environnementale pour l’étude des végétaux horticoles. À travers le cas des rosiers cultivés en France au XIX e siècle, il met en évidence les tensions générées par le processus de marchandisation et par l’obtention d’un grand nombre de nouvelles variétés pendant cette période. Il s’intéresse également aux effets de la sélection horticole sur la diversité génétique des rosiers et suggère ainsi l’intérêt d’une approche interdisciplinaire et spécifique de l’histoire des végétaux cultivés.
