Abstract
Cet article vise à présenter quelques résultats d’une enquête qui s’intéresse aux odeurs dans la ville de Liège et aux comportements à l’égard de l’hygiène publique (fin du XVII e —début du XVIII e siècle). À partir des ordonnances de police promulguées par le prince-évêque, cette contribution se donne pour objectif de mettre en exergue, à travers les comportements des citadins et des autorités centrales, la gestion et l’approche du problème de l’insalubrité urbaine. La répétition des normes qui est observée apparait comme une volonté de mobiliser et de rappeler à l’ordre les administrés, considérés comme maillon essentiel de la propreté urbaine.
