otras enfermedades autoinmunes en una cohorte mexicanaଝPrimary biliary cholangitis and its association with other autoimmune diseases in a Mexican cohort La colangitis biliar primaria (CBP), denominada previamente cirrosis biliar primaria, es una enfermedad autoinmune colestásica crónica, secundaria al daño de las células del epitelio biliar, que ocasiona la destrucción de conductos biliares de pequeño y mediano calibre interlobares y septales 1 .La historia natural de la CBP se caracteriza por diferentes fases, iniciando con la fase preclínica donde solamente hay evidencia de anticuerpos anti-mitocondriales (AMA); siguiendo la fase asintomática en la que se presenta elevación de la fosfatasa alcalina y que puede evolucionar a una fase sintomática, que se caracteriza predominantemente por la presencia de fatiga y prurito; concluyendo con la fase terminal en la que se presentan las complicaciones asociadas con el desarrollo de cirrosis hepática 2 .La patogénesis de la CBP no está totalmente dilucidada; sin embargo, parece ser multifactorial.Para su desarrollo, parece ser necesario la participación de factores genéticos, epigenéticos, medioambientales y probablemente infecciosos.Por lo tanto, el estudio de factores de riesgo, incluyendo la asociación con otras enfermedades autoinmunes no hepáticas en diferentes áreas geográficas es muy relevante.En el presente estudio realizado por Gonzalez-Huezo et al. 3 se evaluaron 78 pacientes con diagnóstico de CBP de forma retrospectiva, que fueron manejados en un hospital de tercer nivel en el centro de México.Los autores excluyeron previamente 36 pacientes por no contar con información clínica completa o tener diagnóstico de sobreposición con hepatitis autoinmune.
