Abstract
In response to the rising economic importance of the Asia-Pacific region, the Canadian government has often expressed the intent to develop increased trade ties with countries in Asia. In this Capstone, a Canadian trade strategy towards Asia is proposed. The strategy is based on examining existing literature and data and proposing the relevant variables that Canada needs to consider in prioritizing Asian markets. Through qualitative and quantitative analysis of these variables, findings indicate that Canada would benefit from prioritizing the markets of Japan, India, China, Indonesia, and the Philippines in Canadian trade strategy. Canada would also benefit from engaging in the mega regional free trade agreements of the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
